Scholarships

The MLS Foundation also manages several scholarships that benefit the students of Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

Roland & Esther Bode

Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship grant is given in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Bode, both Dr. Martin Luther College graduates, by their family.

Mr. Bode taught Christian day school for 24 years. He worked for AAL, directed area choirs, and played the organ at local congregations. He also served as office manager at LACE for 12 years in his retirement. Mrs. Bode taught a number of years in Lutheran elementary schools and raised six children who were MLS graduates.

It is awarded to a graduating MLS senior to be applied toward their tuition at Martin Luther College.

Rev. John F. & Ruth H. Brenner

Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This grant is given in memory of Pastor John F. Brenner (1917-2011) and his wife, Ruth H. Brenner (1922-2001), by friends and family.

Pastor Brenner served as a WELS pastor for 47 years, 41 of those in the Michigan District.  Ruth was his faithful help meet for their 56 years of marriage, during which time Pastor Brenner served four congregations in three different states.

Pastor and Mrs. Brenner held MLS and its special purpose of preparing future pastors and teachers in high regard.  They showed support for the school by regular attendance at MLS functions, even in their retirement years.  They opened their home to the classmates of their children and grandchildren for over four decades. They both were grateful for God’s blessings through service to the church, and freely encouraged students towards ministry.

It is awarded to a graduating MLS senior to be applied toward their tuition at Martin Luther College.

James Frohmader

Memorial Endowed Scholarship

How Your Gifts Support MLS

When you give to the MLS Foundation, you have the opportunity to designate your gift for a specific fund or purpose, or you can give to support the greatest need. The information below shows how gifts have been applied in support of MLS from 2011 through November 28, 2017.

Eberhardt Society

Pastor Christoph Eberhardt and his wife Mary donated the land on which Michigan Lutheran Seminary still stands. Christoph and Mary Eberhardt had the future needs of the Church in mind when they made their permanent gift for Lutheran education. Many years later we still reap the benefits of their foresight and generosity as the gospel of Jesus is still being passed as our heritage to the next generation at MLS.

The Eberhardts’ act is an example of good stewardship that bears fruit well into the future. The MLS Foundation is building an endowment for Michigan Lutheran Seminary. The key to building such an endowment is estate planning. To that end, the MLS Foundation has formed the Eberhardt Society consisting of men and women who remember MLS or the MLS Foundation in their estate plans, serving as an encouragement to others to practice good stewardship in life and in death.

Please consider remembering MLS in your estate plans. Christian consultation is available from the MLS Foundation or from a WELS Christian Giving Counselor. This consultation does not replace the advice of a licensed financial advisor. Please consult a financial advisor before making any estate planning decisions.

Please contact the MLS Foundation’s Donor Relations Director if you have any questions.
